Home made fried chicken and chicken nuggets

The Philippines was a Spanish colony for 400 years, then was ceded to the United States and stayed under the influence of the United States for about 40 years. This is why Filipinos love fried chicken, and you can find fried chicken in lots of fast-food restaurants in this country.

Among Filipino food specialities, and one of my uncle’s secret recipe is marinated and fried chicken skin. It’s a salty and crispy snack that you can eat all day long. The taste is so good, I tried it on fried chicken and chicken nuggets. And trust me, it is finger-licking good !

And when you hear the factory-made chicken nuggets can be made of bones, carcass, fat, nerves, flavor enhancers, preservatives, etc. Isn’t it better to do it yourself at home ? Especially as it is so easy and quick to prepare ! Surely, it is a deep fried meal but at least, you know what it is made of !

Serves 2

  • 4 chicken drumsticks or 2 chicken legs or 2 chicken breasts
  •  2 tsp dried garlic
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce (or Worcestershire sauce)
  • 5 tbsp flour
  • 6 tbsp bread crumbs

If you are using ckicken legs, cut them in two to separate the drumsticks.

If you are using chicken breasts to make nuggets, cut them into chunks.

Salt and pepper the meat, then coat with oyster sauce and dried garlic.

Leave to marinate for an hour in the fridge for more taste.

In a frying pan, heat up some vegetable oil over medium heat.

During this time, prepare a bowl with beaten egg, a second bowl with flour, and  a third one with bread crumbs.

Dip each chunk of meat in the flour first, then beaten egg, and then bread crumbs.

Then fry for about 5 minutes for fried chicken, and 3 minutes for chicken nuggets.
